As an expat living in a foreign country( US in my case ), undecided on how and when we return home, I always felt misplaced and misfit. In spite of having a beautiful family, having my daughter here in US, I never felt at home in our apartment.
Yes, that was home for a long while.
Our Current Home |
The initial days |
That was until I figured out what caused it - the typical expat life with a commitment phobia to anything regarding the place I called home. An unbearable burden for someone who especially loved a good design and tasteful decor.
So I started taking measures to counter the uncomfortable lifestyle. I discarded many of my gathered, temporary adjustment commodities in our house for more thoughtful, mindful furniture, threw in a few pillows on the sofa, shopped for a few window panels, started replacing e-books for real ones and collected/created some art - basically turned our apartment to our home.
Here are some snap shots of our home for now.
So,what do you think? Designing and decorating the living spaces-does that make any difference in our outlook? How do you approach your home - a place to ' stay for now' or a place to ' live the dream ' ?
A place to live the dream..No doubt about that...
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Shefi. This is the very first comment. It makes me incredibly happy.

ReplyDeleteThank you Shanti. Your opinions are more valuable to me than you think. Please do keep visiting.
DeleteI have been lurking around on your blog (as you can see ;)) , and I totally agree with this. When we moved into our current apartment, I was determined to make it home. My husband kept telling me 'we are just renting'.But I don't understand that argument. I truly believe the place u surround yourself with affects your mood, and you should take the time to make it livable - whether that's going to be a year or more !
ReplyDeleteSo True Vinaya, I was feeling so misfit and out of place in my own home - one year or five, home has to be the place where you surround yourself with things we love.
DeleteThank you for lurking around :-). I love lurking around.
