BACK TO SCHOOL : CUSTOMIZE THE FILE FOLDER

In-spite of loving almost all types of DIYs and customizations, it is the simplest of the ones that catch my attention and it is the simplest of ones that I love to do for myself too. Since it is the season when the students and kids are in full fledged "Back-To- School mode, I have one such project apt for the season.

I was introduced to charting tape when the wonderful Amy from Homey Oh My showed a wonderful "simplest of simples" tweak with it. I was smitten with the product and pattern she created there, and when we got these plain accordion folders at Target Dollar spot during our back to school shopping, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

Supplies    :  Plain File Folder / Charting Tape or Washi Tape / E6000 Glue / Black Craft Paint
Time         : 10 Mints

The project is fairly simple once you decide the patter. I started out thinking of simple grid pattern as in my inspiration project but once I had the horizontal lines I loved the simplicity of the look and decided to stop there. I even removed four of the glued on tape to add an interest to the pattern.

It is ideal if you measure the distance and mark - but here I have just eye-balled the space between the lines. Once I finished I glued the end of the tapes once again with E6000 glue so that the tape doesn't come off during constant handling.

The charting tape I used is very similar to washi tape and any kind of tape will work here. I especially love the width of the tape in this case though.

Isn't it awesome when your utilitarian things as file folders are pretty and don't need to be hidden away in a drawer?

Have you started covering and prettying up your notebooks and folders for school just yet? Do you use these old school file folders like me?

  1. I love cute and simple DIYs like this. Especially when they're things I'll actually use! I love the stripes. They add a lot to make the folder unique :)

    1. Thank you so much for visiting Courtney. I love the folder too - with our home being small and storage sparse, it really is important for me to have things neat and clean & pretty to go on open shelves and display areas.

  2. Hi, Anima ~ I love the width of the charting tape you used on this project, too! I've never heard of charting tape, but I'm slightly obsessed with washi tape, so I'm going to HAVE to check it out! I love the simplicity of this project and the end result so much! Thanks for sharing this project with us at the Merry Monday Link Party! Have a great week!

    1. Hey Tiffany, thank you so much for the kind words - I love washi tape too - actually I tried both - liked this one more for its width - kind of minimal and not overwhelming. I love washi tape - couldn't let go - so put them on my Iphone case instead :-) . Kind of busy this week with school opening next Tuesday. But hopefully see on Monday at Merry Monday.
